adam7979:
Hi, lets say i've subscribed to a topic and when someone replies, i'll get an email:
From: <the forum name>
Subject: <the subject of the topic i'm watching>
A reply has been posted to a topic you are watching by xxxxxxx.............
how do i change the name of the "From:" column to the user whom made the post?

A reply has been up

Doesn't "A reply has been posted to a topic you are watching by xxxxxxxxxx" tell you that?

Apart from the privacy implications (since you'd also have to expose that user's email address), the fact is if you do it's almost certainly going to cause it to be flagged as spam.

thanks for the reply. In fact, i'm using smf as a "mailing list" for certain topics and sets each of them to "notify" targeted users. When the list grows, all they've got in their mail box is something like
From: xyz intranet portal, subject: bla bla bla
From: xyz intranet portal, subject: foobar foobar
From: xyz intranet portal, subject: something else
From: xyz intranet portal, subject: Re: bla bla bla
So it would be great if it could look like
From: David Tham, subject: bla bla bla
From: Adam Lim, subject: foobar foobar
From: Christine, subject: something else
From: David Tham, subject: Re: bla bla bla
Hence, cases like "flagged as spam" do not apply here at all.
Thanks again.
Regards,
Adam
