[Rewrite] The Registration Screen

(1/1)

Jakob von Feldern:
I fixed it to be a little less personal. It seems that the same person who wrote the page on how to register, wrote this page as well.

--- Quote ---Upon arriving at the registration screen, the user will need to enter a username, e-mail address and password, and may be offered the option of hiding their e-mail address. Introduced in SMF 1.1 is the support for visual verification. If the forum the user is registering to, has this function enabled, they will need to enter the code in the image, in a small text field. If the user has trouble seeing the characters in the image, they can click on the "Listen to the letters" link. If the user can't see the current image, they can click on the "Request another image" link to generate a new image. Since most forums also require new registrars to agree to their terms of use before registrations are accepted, they will normally have to read the agreement and check "I Agree" before continuing. On some forums, CAPTCHA may be enabled to reduce spam. In this case the user may need to select a box, certifying they are over a pre-set age restriction before they can continue. After filling out everything, and all information was entered correctly, such as a unique username and e-mail address, a strong enough password, and the characters entered in the visual verification box are correct (if enabled), what happens next depends on how the forum is configured. If the next thing seen is a login screen headed by a message inviting the user to proceed, that's it, registration was successful! If not, there are two further possibilities:

    * If registration has been configured to require e-mail activation, the next screen will tell the user about it, and the user should receive an immediate e-mail message with instructions about how to proceed. There is also a useful link ('Did you miss your activation email?') in the User Info box in case the user misses the message or they mistyped their e-mail address.
    * If registration has been configured to require approval from a forum administrator, the next screen will tell the user about this, and they should receive both an acknowledgment by e-mail and another e-mail later to inform them whether or not their application has been approved.
