Which mod: Stop Forum Spam or Stop Spammer ?

Hi,
I would like to know what is the difference between these two mods and which one to choose:
Stop Forum Spam by ITA003: http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1519
Stop Spammer by snoopy_virtual: http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1547
These mods seem to accomplish the same tasks - so why are there two of them?
Which one is most active / better / recommended?
If they are similar in functionality, why are these mods not merged?

yes they both do just about the same thing but is needed...I have them both along with httbl mod and my spam childrem seems to have diminished quite significantly.

Another antispam mod available is Bad Behaviour which does the work of all 3 imho.

You answered your own question.
The antispam mods are by different mod authors.

hmm, I do not see how I answered my question myself? maybe I do not get the point sorry...
Is "by different authors" the key part? I do not understand how this is connected - source code is usually made by different authors, isn´t it?
This seems to point to a cultural or social discussion - this might be interesting, but was not intended - I wanted to know about the differences regarding features or implementation details - I did not have the slightest idea that "different authors" could be a reason - realizing that we are talking about "collaborative" software like a forum here that seems rather absurd for me :)
Collaborative coding is the strength of open source software, isn´t it like that?
