The future of the yabbse community?
Jeff Lewis:
Of course, there are still users over there arguing that we shouldn't be moving...
As for a mass mail, I believe so yes.
truecrimson:
Of course you can't continue to provide support, and work on SMF at the same time. I don't think anyone would expct you to.
However keeping the old forum going would at least provide a reference for those who don't want to upgrade for whatever reason. Maybe the more experienced of those people would provide thier own support, and answer questions for the less experienced.
It seems a bit harsh to just shut the whole thing down, especially when you have several offers to host it, and I will add my offer to do that as well, though I doubt I can match the speed or reliability of some others who have already offered. Unless your just trying to kill yabb se, and force conversion to SMF why not keep it open without support?
Jeff Lewis:
Because this will become the new forum, but it will remain open for now. No worries.
And it's not about hosting although we really appreciate the offers so far :)
Grudge:
I agree with the others here that the old forums should at least be kept open. It will act as a useful resource for anyone who, for whatever reason, do not wish to update their forum to the new version.
Also, many of the boards like the troubeshooting boards and mod ideas may still be a useful reference area for some people. If people are offering to host it I think you should do that, and just put a huge notice (like there already is) saying there is no longer any official support for this software etc etc.
Ben_S:
Why would anyone want to run an inferior product, its not like it will be hard to convert, more than likely just as easy as upgrading from 1.4x to 1.5x was.
People not bothering to upgrade from 1.4.x to 1.5.x actually caused a lot of negativity towards YSE as a whole as 1.4 was quite inefficietly coded and large boards really bogged down servers. Hosts then started so say no yabb se. People not upgrading does noone any favours.
Personally I see no reason to keep the old site available as none of the support related posts should have any relevance, if people have problems then they can upgrade and get support via the normal channels. Ok granted chit chat/scriping help may actually have some use, but other than that, it's time to look to the future.
