Making topics invisible to everyone but the poster

(1/1)

Lilariel:
Running SMF 2.0.2

I'm looking to create a board on my forum where everyone can post a topic, but only the person that posts it and the forum staff will be able to view and reply to the topic, while it remains completely invisible as if it didn't exist to everybody else. It will basically function as a private hotline directly to the people in charge, where they can contact staff directly and anonymously, as a better alternative to PM's.

As an example of the feature I'm looking for, I found this forum which works in exactly the way I want. This board has lots of topics and replies, none of which are visible to me: www.minecraftforum.net/forum/64-help-contact-the-forum-staff/ [nofollow]

Back when we still used SMF 1.x we ran this mod with great success:  http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=687
But I haven't been able to find an updated version of it for SMF 2.0.2, and we have had to disable our support boards since then. Does such a mod exist that is compatible with SMF 2.0.2 at all yet? I found this: http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=2474 but with the big warning on top and 2.0.2 not being listed as compatible. I haven't dared trying to emulate an older version of SMF to install it yet, at least not untill someone more savvy can tell me whether or not it should be safe to do so.

If such a mod doesn't exist yet/anymore, is there any estimated date for whenever SMF 2.1 goes live, and if this feature is implemented by default with it?

As always, thanks in advance for any help on the matter!

The only way to do this using current SMF options is to set up a unique group per member and then create a unique board that only that member can access (Board access is on a per group basis as you may know). So to prevent others seeing it other than a single user, you need to exclude all others.

Do you need this to be such that it's like a "Helpdesk" type option? So that members can report issues to you and you and the member can keep track of the progress? If so then Simpledesk may well be the answer to your needs.

Lilariel:
Ah, wow, well, individual usergroups for each member is not gonna happen what with our 500-ish members at least, that's for sure. xD
SimpleDesk is somewhat close to what we need I suppose, but it's rather roundabout and bulky for our needs. The suggestion is appreciated however, thank you!

I suppose it might help to explain our specific situation more in detail;
We run a forum for an online gaming community with about 500 members, of which about 200 are highly active. It's mainly a MMO-related community, for games including WoW, Star Wars, Starcraft II, Diablo III, etc, as well as several other smaller games ranging from random XBLA titles, to big Steam games. Most members are regular casual players, while we have about 15 staff members that manage social relations, organize ingame events, and plan out how we organize everything.

From time to time however, with a memberbase that large, issues will arise, members will have suggestions for improvements, and members will have requests for various issues - many of which are best done in a private area where only the staff members need to see the contents.

What we ideally need in other words, is a private board on the forums where any member can bring up any concerns or issues they have, be that regarding organization, personal relations with other members, suggestions, etc - in a private area where only they and the staff members can discuss and resolve the issue. Can be compared to a mass-PM Conversation with the individual in question and all staff members, I suppose.

The above mentioned mod for SMF 1.x worked perfectly, if possible I'd really love to find a mod that mimics the functionality of that one.
