PHP crashes on upgrade step 6
orange:
I just tried to upgrade my YSE 1.5.5 board to SMF Beta 5 Public, and it all seems fine until it gets to step 6, at which point I get the following:
---------------------------
PHP.exe - Application Error
---------------------------
The instruction at "0x100bda27" referenced memory at "0x013acffa". The memory could not be "written".
Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program
---------------------------
OK Cancel

This was on the following URL:
http://XXXXXX/smf/upgrade.php?step=6;p=7;conv=1;maint=1;debug=1
I tried refreshing the page but it happens every time.
Windows 2000, PHP 4.3.4, MySQL 4.0.17-nt
Any ideas what the problem might be? This is just a local test server, but if it can crash PHP I really don't want to try it on my main apache shared host.
Ben_S:
Is your host host windows or *nix based, you wont have a problem on *nix since it's not a flaky os, as to why it's crashing php, no idea, don't think anyone else has reported it so I guess it's one of them silly windows niggles that happen on certain systems at times.
[Unknown]:
Please try PHP 4.3.6, just in case this is a bug in PHP. I'll look into what is done on step 6, but NOTHING a php script does should EVER crash PHP.

Thanks for the advice. In the end, I just kept pressing refresh and on the 11th time it worked.
However, I've now upgraded to PHP 4.3.6 so if I do the upgrade again I'll let you know if it works.
Now, a bit of a tech question - if it does also crash PHP on my main host (Linux, apache, as a module) would that also wipe out apache and kill the server, or do these things automatically get restarted?
[Unknown]:
You know, I'm not really sure. I am more of a Windows expert than a linux one, but I think it would probably kill it off until it's restarted.
