Trash files in Forum base directory

This was years ago, of course.. but I always continued to see these misplaced and malnamed cache files on the Windows IIS server, despite the cache folder being correctly named and populated. Again, this was plain SMF, no mods.

These files would appear randomly, out of the blue... like every month or so one would appear.

I later switched to a dedicated CentOS server I set up myself and never saw such things again.

One thing I've learned over the years is that shared hosting is terrible anyway, and God only knows what will happen on it. That's why I took control of my own server ;p.

I've yet to meet a shared host I could rely on, and I went through a few before finally giving up. You get what you pay for I suppose. For all I know, this issue was some pecularity of that host's Windows IIS configuration. They later did have some strange IIS issues, some sort of file system issue, as you'd refresh a page and included files would be there, then a second later they couldn't be found (PHP includes I speak of). That's why I dumped that host, then tried another, and another.. before I realized how terrible they ALL are.

Thanks jcollake!

So with the last paragraph you kind of confirmed a system issue.
Good to know!
