comparison to vbb
ernstl:
hi!
first i have to say that this forum look very promising, i heard many good things... i can hardly wait to get the public beta...
my question is: can SMF be compared Vbulletin?
(as far as i know) many of the biggest boards on the web use VBulletin and it seems the most widly used forum soft on the net (phpbb2 is also used often but i have NO idea which one is used more often)...
and if you answer, yes, SMF can stand a comparison with VBulletin could somebody pls tell me which things are better in SMF or generally what makes the (free!) SMF better than the (not very cheap) VBulletin?
hope that this question has not been asked before...
Joshua Dickerson:
faster, better themes, better permissions, free.. umm there are probably more, but that should be enough to wean you to SMF ;)

Since IMHO YaBB SE always had the best methods of marking what you'd already read and SMF has already improved on this in several ways, I'd say that's a major plus point.
My hosts changed from a YaBB SE forum to vBulletin and it's not a patch on YaBB SE, let alone SMF, in this respect!
David:
I think this is one of the most controversial and opinionated questions for any piece of software that has competition. I don't think this quesiton will be truly answered until at least the public beta.
