I'm new to forum-making

Wilkinsonm:
I'm new to forum-creating. I would like to know how to change the url of my forum because at the end of the url is simplemachinesforum, and I would like to take this bit out. Can anyone help me?

JohnS:
Your request is not very clear without knowing the full URL of the forum. But I would speculate that you have installed the forum in a folder called simplemachinesforum. The only way out of this is to reinstall your forum from scratch and in the process define a different name for the folder.
If you do not have your own domain/hosting and are using some kind of forum hosting then you may not have any option to change that name.

Wilkinsonm:
The full url is hxxp:forumformaths.co/simplemachinesforum/ [nonactive]
So, do you think I have to install this all over again? Let's say I do that, how do I delete the existing installation?

Wilkinsonm:
I'm on web palace.com as my host web site.
I found the uninstall button for the simplemachinesforum app.

JohnS:
OK it is what I thought. It may be possible to change the current name, see

As you can see from that it may work but you may have to do some manual changes as well.
If you have a lot of entries in your forum you may wish to give it a try, if you have few entries/members then a reinstall would possibly be more reliable.
To delete the existing installation depends on how you installed it, if you installed it manually then just delete the old folder completely and then go in to your mySQL database set up in your control panel and delete the databases associated with SMF. If you did an auto install then it should be possible to remove it from your control panel, in fact some auto installers will even locate a manual install and remove them.
