Moved to new host and lost the messages.

Hi:

Does this sound familiar? I had the new hosting company move my site and forum over to their server. Everything seems to be working (Boards, categories, sections, members database, Private Messages, etc.), except there are No messages indexes displaying in the sections.

The main Category page is displaying correct stats for each section, (i.e., Announcement section: 511 Posts, 46 Topics) but when you click on the section links there are no message threads displayed.

Is there someplace that needs a different path?

Thanks,
JohnS

Antechinus:
Sounds like the messages table is missing or corrupted. Have you taken a look at it in phpMyAmdin?

Colin:
Nope, all your paths are correct, but yes try repairing the table via PHPMYADMIN.

Thanks to all for the replies.

It turns out that there were some messages visible, but only from the 2004-2007 time period. After comparing the databases at the old and new hosts (via myphpadmin), I see that the new company didn't get the entire database. They only got 1145 of the 8000+ pages. They are supposed to be working on it.

The tech who transferred the site/forum/db reported an initial error while getting the entire db, but subsequently reported it was successful (obviously not). Is there some known reason(s) why a SMF db would get truncated?

If/when they get the whole db transferred, is there some maintenance that I should perform before putting it back on-line, just to start things as clean as possible?

Thanks again,
JohnS

Colin:
Hi Again,
Nope no reason it should get truncated unless the method in which the exported it was via the SMF tool. They should be using the GUI, SSH, or possibly PHPMYADMIN at the least. Nope, if you have all the paths correct you should be fine to just import the rest of the database.
