big forum with lots of MODs about to reinstall questions?

Hi all,

I have a 2 years old forum with about 60 mods installed. its was 2.0 gold then installed 2.0.1 patch then 2.0.2. I also installed and uninstalled many mods according the the previous unstable versions. in addition to a problem I can't figure out. therefore I decided to install the forum from scratch then reinstall all mods.

I know I have to backup files via FTP then backup database via phpmyadmin.

my only question is that do I have to uninstall all current mods first?

I was thinking why should I do so if all files will be new with also new theme!

thanks

You can just replace the files make sure you delete packages/installed.list too

thank you for your reply.

just to make sure I have explained correct. this is what I am going to do:

1. after backing up both files and database, I will delete all files in server without uninstalling mods
2. upload smf and install using a new database same name as old one.
3. install language pack then new theme.
4. backup old database through phpmyadmin.
5. start installing the mods.
6. upload any necessary files related to old installed mods from the backup I have already made in 1

do you think this is applicable?

thanks

I would just really delete the themes and sources folder if anything.
You want to keep Settings.php and any other folder that has user data such as attachments

setting.php and other user related data for sure this will be used of the old backup. I just have a lot of junk files on the server and would like to clean it all. I also as mentioned have a problem with my forum and I want to be sure a 100% that the problem wont come back after all the time I spend on the changes.

I know my way might be too much, but is it applicable if we put it like this:

1. after backing up both files and database, I will delete all files in server without uninstalling mods
2. upload smf and install using a new database same name as old one.
3. install language pack then new theme.
4. backup old database through phpmyadmin. and setting.php, attachments, avatars and other user related files via FTP
5. start installing the mods.
6. upload any necessary files related to old installed mods from the backup I have already made in 1
