Motivating People To Register on My Site

(1/2) > >>

Mr. Peanut:
I have a forum site for both backpackers and the businesses that cater to them, for an island in Thailand known as Koh Lanta.

I am on the island now and I am traveling door-to-door asking businesses to fill out a small form for a free listing on my home page (non forum section of my site) I then ask them to register on my forum to activate their free listing.

However, I want to have some kind of event or work with a local charity and offer them something, such as $1.00 to the local animal welfare company for every customer or staff member that registers on my site.

Will such a thing work? Has anyone ever tried this?

Thanks,

ChalkCat:
I like the idea of charity donations, but surely getting people to register is the easy part - it's getting them to post and participate that you should be aiming for  :)

Mr. Peanut:
Okay, but I have not accomplished "the easy part", hence my question.

ChalkCat:
Sorry, I didn't mean it to sound like that, I just meant to point out that motivating people to register is no guarantee of them posting.  You might be better offering to donate a dollar upon them reaching five posts, or something like that, assuming they need to register in order to post :)

Mr. Peanut:
Okay, that is very useful tip.

Thank you!
