I can only speak for myself here, but i know i would probably still be getting my stuff off the net, even if prizes would drop with, let's say, 50% or so...

Like Metho said... that's just our nature (well, most people's anyway).

bah, the next step is to make all transmissions encrypted so that you don't know where the file comes from or what file it is. There will be no logs. The only way for an ISP to know what is being sent is for them to get access to your computer, which is illegal ;)

ROTFLMAO :D :D :D

--- Quote from: Shadow on September 13, 2003, 06:23:14 PM ---Aquilo: A number of websites do leagally sell single tracks from CDs. They generally run for about $1-$2USD each. Likewise, you cannot rent a CD, CDs are far too easy to copy. Whenever I get a new CD, the firs thing I do is back it up to my computer.

I know but it's not an accommodation I can make as well as many other people, But when I go to Wall mart, Best Buy, or any other store that has the room to sell a wall of singles it's frustrating that nine times out of ten the song/Artist does not have a single or it's only available in Japan or some other excuse that a single is not available I would gladly pay a fee for best buy or another store to hold a copy if they can get it and they are selling that good, but like I was once told by Garth Brooks' manager "That song was only released and available in the UK!" I'm referring to the song "The red Strokes" I looked and looked and called till I finally got his manager and not only did she tell me that but she was rude about it!

another example my uncle "Victor Arencibia" is a song writer and book writer and I really wan't a CD that one of his songs is in BUT it was only available in Canada and now it's so hard to even find the group "West End Girls" that hey I haven't looked for a while for the opportunity to buy a copy on the net.

any way there needs to be changes in the Music industry so the consumer is happy and the Artists make there money!

something like FileTopia you mean? FileTopia features encrypted file transfers...

mattsiegman:
Most of the songs I listen to are rips I've made of a friend's CD.  I do want to support the artists, but with someone like the RIAA reaping the benefits, I'm not going to buy a CD.
