Indeed, as previous posters mentioned, we're looking at de-coupling the Calendar from the core and provide it as additional download (official package), for further 2.x versions (2.1 and up). We haven't fully decided yet, though.

Whether it will be made separate or not, and specially if it will, it should be enhanced with additional features that would make the calendar functionalities more useful. Which exactly, it's open to discussion, and I appreciate the proposal. :)

For short term solution to your problem, and specially for 1.1.x/2.0 lines (which will not receive any such improvements), I'd recommend as well, to post in Mod Requests. I'd keep this topic here, for eventual comments on the calendar feature proposed.

It something I really Need to do for my members.
I’m so Busy,
it seems I look down one day, there’s a birthday coming and the next day its Gone.
I have to apologize to members, all the time.
My site is Based On Family Values . we are free and Pride ourselves on simplicity of answering emails and Phone calls personally . My Calendar is very important. I would never want to loss that.
My Members like being treated like human, because the rest of the world is being impersonal.
I will not upgrade to any version that doesn’t have it or cant compensate it, It is a Tool I Need.

Your request is rather unique. The calendar is indeed important to me, too. Based on the comments already posted, it's not going away, it just might move to an add-on as many folks don't use it.

I looked at the existing mods and the one that seems close is this one:

But it's listed as being in Beta and isn't compatible with RC5 or 1.1.13. But the concept of it is neat. In theory (if modified), it could post a topic to an admin only category that you could subscribe to and get notifications three days before the birthday actually happens giving you some time to prepare a message. Or you could use the mod as is (get notified on the user's birthday and go from there). In reality, I have no idea how that would happen.

And considering you already have a calendar with future events on it, you could use the calendar as is and plan ahead. And considering your site is around Family Values, I would imagine forgiveness is one of those values you and your members cherish, so if you happen to miss one, I would hope your members would forgive you.

It wouldn't be hard to modify that mod for that purpose and the only reason I haven't flagged it for RC5 is because I haven't tested it nor can I be bothered to do so. But as far as I know it works just fine with version emulation, there's no reason for it not to.

 My members are forgiving, But I Guess it Bothers Me, I Have Promised to remember them The best I Can, So far, I have Missed So Many, so I would Like To Correct that.
