upgrading php 5.2.17 in smf 2.0.2
Tunz Master:
I've been having some issues and wonder if it could be an outdated php on my forum? how do I upgrade it to the latest stable version of php?
is this something I do thru smf or is it at my hosts end?
thank you for any help or ideas>
Dino

Your host will have to update the PHP for you. As far as I know extra effort has been put in place in the 2.x branch to make sure it is compatible with many PHP versions.
What are the issues that you are facing?
Arantor:
Firstly, the latest stable version of PHP is 5.3.15, not 5.2.17 (5.2.x is EOL)
Secondly, there's no guarantee that upgrading PHP will change anything.
Thirdly, what would be better is if you tell us what issues you're having and we'll try and figure out if contacting your host and doing a PHP upgrade is worth the hassle or not (very likely, it isn't)
Tunz Master:
no matter how many time I restore site to an earlier date when I had no issues I get this & a messed up forum:
"The default theme's directory is wrong, please correct it by clicking this text."
I have redone the directories, restored the sql database numerous times and something keeps changing in my site to get stuff "redirecting" at the wrong sfolders???
I read somewhere that the php version may be the issue which is why i thought updating it to a more stable version from 5.2.17 to 5.4.5 may be the issue?
I am somewhat of a newbie & still learning & totally lost? lol
can anyone help?
and thank you,
Dino

It's totally irrelevant in this case. There ARE issues that 5.3 and 5.4 present but not related to this.

What do you mean by 'redone the directories' exactly?
