New Post Icon Perminantly on

<< < (2/2)

General_Naga:
I can't actually find that button but I have found that if you read all the posts in a thread the icon does go to "off" - is it normal for new members to have posts made before them marked unread? Is there a way of automatically making all posts marked read straight after registration?

Rumbaar:
I'm sure that a per user settings, so they would have to mark all posts read after registering.

But if you search Karlbensons post, he created a script that could perform this via a manual running of a file.

General_Naga:
I've had a look but I'm hoping to avoid resetting everyone's read posts which is what karlbensons script would do. Is this a problem which is unique to my board or is there a wider bug issue here? I'm running SMF 2.0 b4

Thanks for the suggestion though.

Rumbaar:
Yes it's normal for all new members to have any and all post made before their registration as unread.  As for them their account hasn't viewed any of the threads/posts.  This is by design and quite logical, as the forum can't tell if they (as guest) had read any of the thread prior to registration and can only assume they've read none.

You can try and get them to click the mark all as read button on registration, so they have a zero point to move on from and then all new post will be correctly identified as new.
