error message when deleting a post
(1/1)
chelseaphil:
For some reason when trying to delete a post off my forum I have this morning statred to get this message:
Got error 28 from storage engine - check database storage space or contact the server administrator.
File: /home/********/public_html/forum/Sources/Subs-Post.php
Line: 1413
Note: It appears that your database may require an upgrade. Your forum's files are currently at version SMF 1.1.11, while your database is at version 1.1.8. The above error might possibly go away if you execute the latest version of upgrade.php.
I looked at upgrading the database but cannot get into the admin area as I get the same message. any advice?
I also get this message when clicking on Members link.
Error writing file '/tmp/MYAIhq5V' (Errcode: 28)
File: /home/arbo/public_html/forum/Sources/Memberlist.php
Line: 342
chelseaphil:
When trying to do the upgrade, (I managed to use another admin account) I get a warning
Error in Package Installation
At least one error was encountered during a test installation of this package. It is strongly recommended that you do not continue with installation unless you know what you are doing, and have made a backup very recently. This error may be caused by a conflict between the package you're trying to install and another package you have already installed, an error in the package, a package which requires another package that you don't have installed yet, or a package designed for another version of SMF.

-----------------Is it OK to carry on with the upgrade? My forum is big and very busy.

chelseaphil stay calm! :P
No, not joking: you don't need any upgrade, most likely one or more of the tables of your database crashed or you are running out of (database) space.
Please check through phpmyadmin or ask your host for support before trying to fix things that are not broken! ;D
ETA: this is just a quick answer, if you want to go through phpmyadmin but you are not sure what and how to do it feel free to post here asking for details.

Yippee!!! Thanks for the shove forward. I looked at but was nervous of doing a Find and Fix. But did it and it has sorted out the problem.
MrPhil:
Error 28 usually means you're about out of database space. You should keep an eye on that (do you have any hosting limits on DB space, file space, email space?). Database maintenance may have greatly reduced the size of something, but that would be unusual (to bloat the files that much in the first place, and then recover the space).
Your 1.1.11 SMF is quite a bit out of date, and you should try to upgrade to 1.1.16. If you're getting a lot of "Test Failed" messages, it means your files are heavily modded you will have to do a lot of editing by hand. Alternatives are to do a Large Upgrade directly to 1.1.16 and reinstall your mods (assuming they are 1.1.16 compatible), or to jump to 2.0.2 (and take a look at the mod situation). Either way, your database is even more out of date, and you should make sure you run the upgrade.php script to bring the database up to date. By the way, first make sure you have plenty of space available in the database, as the upgrade may create "backup" tables which will greatly increase the size of your database. You can get rid of the "backup" tables once you're sure the upgrade went smoothly and everything is working properly.
