I expect to be a bit cranky for some time.

I'm doing the "Up and down" thing, at the moment.

Sad he's gone, but happy to have had a genuine, no-nonsense friend for so long.

It was one of those friendships where, if you didn't see each-other, for a while, you just continued the previous conversation that you were having, when you next got together, as though there hadn't been a break, you know?
