Can't install anything I need
Cyberuben:
Hello SMF-users,
I just set up a forum for myself, and I have a strange feeling that osmething isn't right.
I try to install serveral modifications, such as Custom Form Mod and some BBCodes, but they won't install. It'll leave me sitting here with this error:
--- Quote ---You cannot download or install new packages because the Packages directory or one of the files in it are not writable!
--- End quote ---
Strange thing is, all files and the folder itself are writable, chmod 777. It shows up correct in Dreamweaver, shows it correct on the server itself (ls -l).
I set up the server myself, and it's a Ubuntu webserver. Anything works like it should, just no modifications.
Can anyone help me with this?
If you require screenshots / more info, ask me.
Colin:
Try setting it as 755.
Cyberuben:
I managed to install some things like themes and the BB [you] code, but not much more.
K@:
Just a hunch...
Try creating a directory, inside the "Packages" one, named "temp".
CHMOD 777.
It might be worth asking your host whether mod_security is enabled, too. It needs to be disabled.
Plus, whilst you're at it, ask them if you have full ownership of the files on your site.
That's a "CHOWN" thing.
Cyberuben:
It is my own Ubuntu server, hosted in our attic.
I do not have a domain name so far: hxxp:84.27.25.41/ [nonactive]
I have all rights, that is why I find it strange that some things do work and some don't.
And I honestly don't know what to do. When I just click "Proceed" with the correct FTP settings, I get this:
But everything is writable. (I made everything writable just for testing)
I have managed to edit some things, I added the "temp" folder with CHMOD 777, and some things work. Even though, I have a custom template, so I get errors like these.
Any idea how to solve this?
