Im creating a Mod from Scratch, What are some Key files .php to have on hand?

Hello, I Have decided to hack away at creating a modification, and wish to know some key .php files from my directory I can copy and have on hand to add edits?
I have no programming experience but I'm starting from scratch because i cannot find exactly what i need on SMF.

Basiclly, I want to create a match system that allows users to create teams within the program, match each other, and have a ranking system that displays statistics of teams created within the program.

The program will link to peoples Profiles to show their statistics in the system,
But the actual program itself will run entirely on its own blank page, accessible from the main tab menu. 

With this information, can you tell witch source files ill need to have ready for when the program is built?
Also, Where is the modification that allows an extra tab to a blank page?
I figure it will be easiest building the program that way.

If you have no programming experience building something like that is not where you start. Learn some basic PHP and then work upwards. Starting like that will just lead to frustration. My two cents.
