In order to log into the admin panel you don't need to provide an email address, just the password to verify your identity.
Can you describe exactly what are the steps you are doing? (all the buttons you push, all the links/menu entries you select?)

If you can't login you have for sure a problem.
I have in mind 3 possibilities, but let's start with the easiest one: go to your profile, in the "account settings" page and change your password to something else, then try to login again to the admin panel.
