Hey guys, I want something that would sync the avatar from smf to wordpress so if the user adds an avatar on the smf forums it automatically syncs with wordpress and put it that avatar on wordpress as well.

What version of SMF, and what version of WordPress are you running?

Considering that WP uses an external service only for avatars, syncing so that uploading to SMF updates WP is totally a WP operation, hacking up WP's code and as a result not really something we can help you with too much here.

Exactly. Gravatar is also, coincidentally, owned by Automattic, the crowd that runs development of WordPress. It's wired into WP, there's no separate avatar function, but for WP's style of production that makes perfect sense.
