No output from stage 1

Hi,
   I am trying to install 1.05 beta on my Mandrake 10 box. I have apache2 and php enabled and have MySQL running. When I hit proceed on the install.php page I get a blank SMF screen. From the installation guide I should see some output with success as teh result of each action. Any ideas as to what may be wrong?

Is there any logging that I can look at to see what is failing?

Can you show me a print screen of the screen?

I would assume it's timing out trying to contact the MySQL server.

im having a similar issue actually. here is the story

my main sites phpMyAdmin shows up and runs fine. i goto a different domain on my server and phpMyAdmin comes up as a blank page. i goto the forums install and it shows the title graphic and a blank page. i try to install smf on yet another different domain and it does the same thing.

it looks like my server root runs mysql fine, but all the extra vhosts seem to have problems connecting to mysql. any idea's?

edit:

ok, so i found a little more is should add. as it turns out i can access phpmyadmin 2.5.4 but version 2.5.6 doesnt work, nor does smf. i imagine there is some config im missing somewhere. any idea's?
