sharks:
I found this terrible news out by myself just now and got back to this topic here after a quick search via Google. This news just spoiled my day. I know Bloc put a lot of dedication and effort into his SMF endeavours, much more than can be said about the devs of SMF over the past years. Despite all the drama, Bloc stuck to his love for SMF and moved to his own site and continued to develop his themes, which are largely why many of us (including me) have shifted to SMF or are still running SMF. The guy designed the 1.1 default/core theme, for god's sakes!! as well as participating in 2.0's default theme.
I know he has been feeling lost lately, as he dropped his premium service and announced he was going to give it all for free, which was quite shocking as all his premium themes have obviously taken a serious amount of time and patience to make. I think he does need time off to recuperate and figure out where he stands relative to SMF. It is very sad to witness that SMF has once again proven itself unworthy of another great coder and friend. Most of the good people have resigned. But enough stating the obvious.
I really hopes he comes back one day... back to SMF or another forum software. Whichever it might be. The open source community will certainly benefit greatly either way.
Big respect to you, Bloc. At some point, you promoted SMF single-handedly with your excellent free/premium themes and TP was the very first portal that i installed years ago and it still looks/works great to this day. Take your time and heal.

Sharks, do you know how to get in touch with him?
Not to put too fine a point on it, but I don't believe he announced he was "giving away" all his themes for free. In April, he announced he was no longer accepting new "subscriptions" for his "premium" themes. Just a few weeks earlier, I had "subscribed" to his premium "theme club" for a full year and sent him a payment via paypal (I signed up for a full year in part because I wanted to help support his work, and also because I was assured that I would receive "support" throughout the subscription period when I wanted to tweak his themes for my own forum - and I was counting on that). When he announced he was stopping new subscriptions, he said he would honor existing subscriptions for the full subscription period (in my case, that would be until March 2012). Up until last week, he did maintain his forum and made it accessible for those of us who were subscribers and occasionally responded to questions. Then he suddenly went dark.
I've attempted to contact him at the email address he used for the paypal transaction. So far, I've received no reply. I'm wondering if anyone here has a better email address for him - if so, a PM would be appreciated.

He announced that all his future themes would be free.

I think waiting for that always-elusive 2.0 gold took its toll on Bloc. He should be back soon though. I really hope he doesn't have anything bad going for him or his family in real life, in which case, that would be a completely different issue. Nope, i unfortunately don't have any way to contact him other than via PM on his site. Try PM'ing him on this site.
K@:
Bloc was one of the first people I had contact with, here.
He was a kinda hero, after I saw Helios for the first time.
From the contact that I had, he always came-over as one of the good guys.
If he HAS gone, I'm gonna miss him...
