Upgrading from 1.0.16 to 2.0.x fails with an unknown error
ccbristo:
Hello,
I am trying to upgrade a forum from 1.0.16 to 2.0. I have tried to upgrade using the web installer and by FTPing the large upgrade packages for 2.0.0 and 2.0.2 to the web server and running the Upgrade.php script. No matter what set of options I choose on the upgrade, it fails with an "unknown error" after about 25 seconds. It fails on the first step (Creating indexes and something...I don't have the exact step in front of me right now) I have no idea what is causing the failure since no extra information is output (even w/ the log option checked). I have also tried putting the forum into maintenance mode and not doing so. Does anyone have any idea what could be happening or where I can look to get some more information?
FWIW, the upgrade does NOT appear to be making any database changes before failing. I'm also not sure if this is relevant or not, but in order to upgrade to 1.0.16, I had to use the web installer. Going through the admin tools would not work.
Thanks,
- Chris

Welcome to the site ccbristo :)
I would recommend using the large upgrade pack as there are some known issues with the web installer.

If you can provide the exact error message would help a lot in identifying the problem.
If you are testing the upgrade on a test forum, you may want to try upgrading first to SMF 1.1.16 (you can find the package in the ) and then from here to 2.0.2.
ccbristo:
Emanuele, Unfortunately the exact error message is "Unknown Error". And I should have said 1.1.16, not 1.0.16. So I have upgrade to 1.1.16 before upgrading to a 2.0.x version, without success.
Ziycon, I have tried both the large upgrade pack (for 2.0.0 and 2.0.2) and the web installer, and received the same result for all.

An unknown error is always cool! :D... lol
Do you have mods installed?
Are you using English during the upgrade?
Do you have any particular setting? (no idea what in particular though)
As last resource if you want, can I try with my hands? (a link (by PM) to the upgrade file edited to not require admin privileges would be enough)
