Personal messaging in SMF 2.0.2

I am admin of a forum, I do not have any script or code knowledge. How to I setor change personal messaging options?  Also limits on how many and how long to keep.
This morning, all of mine are gone, except for the new ones i have not read.
I did a search on this, could not find the answer.

How many PMs can be retained:  admin > members > membergroups   choose and MODIFY membergroup and set maximum personal messages

Personal Message Settings: Profile > Modify Profiel > Personal Messaging - allows you to set PM display options, message save defaults, etc

Speaking of that...I get a prompt when a new PM arrives and asks do I want to open it in a seprate window....I would rather have it open in the same window so how can I disable that feature or just make it open in 1 window ?
