Customizing SMF > Mod Requests
Simple Forum Clan Support [Request] [Revised]
olivestab:
There would be a new main tab for clans;
-The main page would simply display clans like the MEMBERS tab, only by top ranked descending.
-On the main page, users will have the option to simply create,
(or apply to) clans, and challenge others,
or simply click on a clan to see a simple clan page that displays specific things like,
-Date created
-win loss ratio
-clan motto
-members
-about
-Users would need a specific amount of post counts/ karma before they can create a clan.
-Allow admin to set number of post count or karma, choose one or the other, or completely disable the option.
-Leaders will have the option to upload a custom clan badge.
-Allow leader to upload any small image, like 32x32, or 100x15 pxl that will display under the icon image shown for groups.
-Once in a clan, the Badge will show along with the other icons seen on your profile wile you post.
How to challenge Clans
-Allow leader to challenge any clan via the main clan page tab, and set the date/time.
-Challenge system will prompt a message awaiting approval, where the challenged can decline, agree(play it now), or set a new date.
-Once agreed to the challenge, players should be prompted to report back after the match,
where both leaders will agree via checkbox as to witch team won.
-Once submitted, the system will automate a Win and/or Loss to both clans, moving both clan along the ranks on the main page.
(If there are disputes, Mods/Admins can have full control over win/loss numbers, and people can be expected to provide proof.)
-Users will be awarded points for wins.
-players are awarded/deducted a set amount of points (XP) for every win loss.
-If won, leaders can receive a large portion of points to distribute specifically to certain members depending on how the match went.
-Allow leader to auto distribute the points evenly with a single click, or evenly through a specific selection.
-Allow admin to set a base win/loss point amount, and a base amount that a leader can receive per win.
Allow XP to be alike karma or post count, where admin can control benefits/permissions/awards to specific count of XP.
*Sigh*
So yeah...
-Main page listing all the clans by rank descending/ with Ability to Apply, Create, Challenge all in one.
-Simple but Integrative Clan page, with additional "Edit info" and "Upload badge" options only seen by the leader.
-Allow clan badge to be automatically displayed in the user info when posting and in profile.
-Simple Match System with win/loss, and Set amount of points added/deducted.
If i could code or program this is what i would make :-\

*bump*
Revised my post entirely.
I hope someone can update with any actual news/preview on a clan system,
or if someone is ambitious enough to make this!

This is only about a month's full time work to create...

than why has none delivered? why so many scrapped projects?
I think this would be a great system for the time being, since its been asked for since 2008
(Maybe even more, Im sure there have been other posts from 2007 etc)
Trust me Arantor, If i had the slightest clue how to code from scratch I would do this.
Arantor:
Let's say for the sake of argument, you're already fluent in SMF's code base and in PHP and related technologies.
Can you stop working for a month to work on this instead? When I said a month's full time, I'm talking 8+ hours a day, 5-6 days a week, it's gruelling to do that. Then to go through bug testing, only for the inevitable rounds of changes that people want because you know that what you've written will only suit any given % of the people who want it.
I've been down this road. I wrote a ton of mods for SMF, I've seen the entire spectrum of what happens, for small, freely given-away mods. Right from ingratitude, through insults, flat out abuse and even threats, and that was for *free*. Now imagine that after you spend a month working on this, you consider making it paid to compensate you for all your time and trouble, now multiply the hassle by at least two.
There's your reason: too many people pee in the pool for everyone else. It's just not worth the hassle except for the dedicated few who really want to deal with the consequences. THAT's why no-one, even those who have the knowledge, really bother.
(Also, Labradoodle's a great guy, but more than one of his 'paid projects' has yet to materialise. Maybe it will, maybe it won't, odds are whatever happens it won't exactly suit your requirements and you'll have to ask for changes to suit your specific site.)
