Hi pftq. Your excellent work continues. Thanks for the latest upgrade with the batch mode.

I have a question as I'm trying to understand if things are working correctly:

It is clear to me that if I have a user group e.g. 'Gang X' and set Gang X to be notified for Topic A and don't bother selecting individual members, just the Gang X header (check mark on) then all current and future members of Gang X will be notified of replies in Topic A. I also understand that if a member is removed from Gang X or added to Gang X the notification settings for that member are adjusted automatically.

I assume the same should work for Gang X if I set Notify for them at the Board level (let's say Board Q). When I go to Board Q and pick the Gang X group and check the header for the group and save the settings, I see Gang X listed on the right side under Board Q. But for the life of me, I don't seem to be seeing notification emails going out to all Gang X group members when a new topic is made in Board Q and definitely not for replies under that new topic. I see notifications going out for Topic A (if I had set the group up to be Notified for that topic specifically), but not Board Q. Sooooo when should the Notify Group setting be causing SMF to generate a notification email at the Board level? Is it only for the very first post (i.e. creation) of a new topic, or would it also be for subsequent replies to that topic in the Board? And would the new topic under Board Q automatically inherit the same Group Notification settings as the parent Board Q?

Oh one other question - if I set up Gang X and also have selected one or more members in the user group to be specifically listed as well for a Group Notify at the topic or board level (i.e. you see Gang X and Member Y both listed on the right side), do they get double notifications for each post/reply or is SMF smart enough to know not to do that?

Whether they get notifications only for the first post or all is dependent on each member's notification preferences.  If you have the SMF Mailing List installed, this forces notification emails to all members since they essentially rely on the emails to participate but isn't the case here.  The same goes for auto-subscribing members to the individual threads as well when they're notified about the board topics.

I've coded the mod to handle if a member is subscribed both individually and as part of a group, so they won't get double the emails. :)

If I select a board - does this select all the theads underneath OR do I need to select these individually ?


If I do need to select individually, then a SELECT All checkboxes would have been good ;)

Boards and threads are distinct (so subscribing to a board does not guarentee thread reply subscription; this is a SMF thing, not from the mod).

Glad to hear it worked out well  I can add a select all box when I get some time later this week.

Sorry, I'am a newbie. Could you let me know how to set up "SMF Notify Group" after installing it?
