Customizing SMF > Forks Discussion

question about creating a fork

(1/1)

Shane74340Plus:
I am wondering if by creating a fork, I'm assuming I can use just part of SMF in my fork? (I.E use the code that powers SMF in another format?) I don't want to discuss what type of fork I want to create, for 'security' reasons. (a la the "Facebook" was stolen thing.)

Hey Shane.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean, by "in another format", nor the kind of reasons you mention.

Either way: you can fork SMF 2.0/2.1, and you should name your fork differently (not SMF). It doesn't matter what part of the SMF you want to use... you can use all or any. Please note that the license statement has to stay in the files - you can see the BSD 3-clause for details.

Thanks. All I'm going to say right now, is that the "format" will be a plugin.

Have fun, and please feel free to ask any other details you may need. :)
