What the heck? 400+ guests all the sudden?

All the sudden I go from having like 50 guests all the time...to like 400+, just like that today.


Anyone have an idea of what it could be from? What kind affect does this have on my smf performance?


I realize it's nothing compared to some sites, but all the sudden like that is strange to me.

Check where they come from :)
Somebody could have placed a link to your forum on a site that's better visited than yours for example, or you suddenly get high bot traffic, etc.

This can have tons of reasons, though they don't really have much to do with the server configuration.
Depending on the power of the server and/or the limitations your hosting provider implies on you; it could lead to problems, depending on what those guests are doing.

Thanks! I will keep an eye on it. For the most part it looks legit. Maybe someone posted some links to the forum somewhere very busy. I will check the stats on that.

Looks to be a pretty good mix between actual legitimate guests browsing and bots crawling.   :)
