SU - switcher for admin

(1/3) > >>

Tony Reid:
As its early yet, Im not sure if you have this planned or if its already in - in another guise.

The amount of times I have had to go into the DB - to fix problems with users ban lists on there im's and other such user configurable areas - it would would of been nice if the Admin had the power to switch into the user - like the *nix command SU - Switch User

This means of course that the admin doesnt have to ask for the password of the user.

I am thinking that unlike SE, all SMF user config areas will be configurable by the admin as well. If this is the case then maybe the above suggestion will not be needed.

You can't do this.  The su command will, to my knowledge, only take input from tty.  And anyway, it wouldn't work on IIS.... and some people don't even have root access.

Unknown, I think he meant a feature similar to SU not using it.

Basically, the admin would be able to log on as any user on the board and browse that users messages, profile etc etc. To me it sounds like a lot of effort for something that the admin can do by firing up phpmyadmin if necessary...

You can browse the profile and we've already decided that viewing their ims is an invasion of privacy, so we're not helping with that.

Sorry, skipped that one line.  Kinda have to speed read when you've got a board full of requests sitting in front of you.

I didnt meen browsing there Im's although I suppose a function like this would allow that.

My main reason for suggesting it is for adjusting the parts of the profile that were not admin changeable in SE - things like there Ban list in thier IM area.
