connecting to a chat server?

I don't think the title of this topic is correct should be something like live port or something ???

any why with this chat server I have running it have it so you can put a list and number of people in the chat room and it outputs javascript and just calls it as an external script to

http://aquilo.homeip.net:81/script?list

now when I try to get this list in php using fopen or file_get_contents() it starts printing errors each error is counting bytes and I stop the window and php keeps executing this 'till I stop it in task manager so there is something wrong with the way I'm connecting to this script and was wondering how to connect to something like this, get the list and disconnect so it wont keep running.

Maybe it's because http://aquilo.homeip.net resolves to 127.0.0.1  :-X  ???

I just have the client set to offline right now, so it reports 127.0.0.1 as the offline ip.
