Pretty URLs Help

kill_seth:
I need some help with the Pretty URLs mod. I installed it and everything when smooth, no errors or warnings. After the installation it told me to go the the admin panel and turn it on. I did that and when I hit save changed I get an error message:

"Cannot overwrite existing .htaccess file. Please change its write permissions."

I checked the permission to the file with filezilla and my cpanel and it is set to writable.

There are the settings I check:

Enable URL rewriting: Checked
Enable URL rewriting: Blank
Use caching instead of database table for PrettyUrls: Unchecked
Boards: Checked
Topics: Checked
Actions: Unchecked
Profiles: Unchecked

I hit save and the message appears. Any help would be appreciated!

ElPlayer:
did you set the htaccess permissions to 755 or 777 ?
some host need 777 to work properly

kill_seth:
I tried both 755 and 777. They both returned the same error.

ElPlayer:
what OS do you have installed in your server ?

kill_seth:
I'm not sure, I'm using hostgator which has phpmyadmin. Maybe you can point me in the right direction to see what it is. Note that before I upgraded to 2.0.2 I had the same mod installed and it worked with no problems.
