Will Custom Theme migrate when upgrading from 1.1.16 to 2.02 ?
MancoJoe:
Thanks. So how do people migrate a 1.1.16 theme over to 2.02 ? There has to be a way to do this - any documentation that explains what would need to be done? Or are there folks that can be hired to do this?
Doctor Deejay:
Actually it's really hard to do. Most people just choose another theme or create a new SMF 2.0 theme based on the old one
MancoJoe:
How does one create a new theme off of the old one then? Is there documentation that shows you what files need to be touched, grabbing from the old to the new, etc?
Doctor Deejay:
One could just take the Curve theme and base it on the old theme :)
Antechinus:
It depends how close you want it to be, and how customised your old theme is, and how much you know about building themes. There are quite a few themes that are available in both 1.1.x and 2.0. versions, so it's definitely not impossible, but you will need to understand the 2.0.x and 1.1.x templating and css if you want to make progress.
Basically, what you need to do is get the names of any elements you want to change, and then either edit the files to suit (if it's templates or css) or change images to match the ones from your old theme. There is basic documentation available for making minor edits to the 2.0.x default theme, but there is no documentation that will tell you everything you may need to learn about theming.
How much do you know about it at the moment?
