Hard time installing
(1/1)
Andieisme:
I keep running into a couple of issues when trying to run the webinstall. First, I can't figure out the install path. The one it auto selects it does not like. I can't see what it is immediately. Second, it keeps telling me I have to agree to the terms, and I already have.
So, maybe the second issue is tied to the first and getting that part correct will fix everything. Can anyone help? Suggestions?

Sorry, Andieisme. But, web install can be a bit weird, sometimes.
Have a look at this: http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Installing
Doing a "normal" install's pretty easy. Worth giving that a try?

I'm almost at the point of asking for a step by step. I am feeling so lost at this point.
I did down load and extracted all the files for a regular upload, but my limited tech skills have me worried I will put something in the wrong place. While I see it says I can place the files in the Root directory, I'm trying to figure out if I need to create folders with all the bits and pieces or if those bits and pieces can just be uploaded into one section and then I can run install.
Andieisme:
Everything is uploaded now but I can't get the installer to run. Any suggestions?

In a nutshell:
Get install archive.
Dearchive on your HD.
Upload the files.
Point your browser to your site's URL, adding "install.php", to the end.
Follow on-screen instructions.
When finished, delete install.php
Done.
If you use Filezilla, to upload the files, make sure "Transfer type" is set to "binary", NOT "auto", which is the default.
