A separate template/css for administrator

(1/2) > >>

W3BB:
A separate template for admin [ & moderator ] section would be useful especially for people whom are not into codding as if something goes wrong with a mod or whatever, they could still access the admin panel to take an action.

Most modifications, especially with the 2.0 series, will edit all themes. However, users in the administrator group can switch to any installed theme by appending "?theme=x" to their board URL, where x is a theme ID number.

I know you'll say that it's not the same thing, and it isn't. However, if you have yet another template that duplicates functions for a specific group, modifications will also need to edit that or certain groups will be missing functionality, negating the purpose of a "special" template.

Well, looking at other forum platforms i thought it would be a good idea for SMF to have a different template for the administration [ & moderator ] section.
What i wanted to say is that, if there would be an error from a mod they install [that makes the front side of the board inaccessible] admins would still be able to login and remove the conflicting mod.

Kindred:
what about a mod that modifies the admin side of things? (there's a lot of those)

here's the way to fix your problem
1- Before you install a mod - always take a backup!
2- if you have a problem with a mod - restore the backup.

done. :)

Thanks:), but i actually dont have a problem myself. It was just an idea on how to make things simpler for administrators in case something goes wrong. Not everyone knows how to do/restore backups from MySQL or fix errors, and not everyone do tests on localhost before uploading on a live site, even if they should.
