copying a forum folder into another public directory
(1/1)
srcp:
I've created a Simple Machines 2 forum on a website for parents. It's in English. Soon, our Chinese version of this website will go "live." I would like to copy the SMF folder from the English website's public directory, and then paste it into the Chinese website's public directory. This would save me so much time because I wouldn't have to make all the settings and appearance changes to the Chinese forum that I did when I created the English version.
After I've copied the English version over to the Chinese website, I would then install the Chinese language pack and set the default language to Chinese.
Will this work?
Kindred:
unless you have installed a bunch of mods, none of the settings in the forum are controlled by files at all. Everything data or settings related is stored in the database.
(and you can not easily use one database for two different installations of SMF)
So, you will need to be more clear...
Yes- you can copy the files from one directory to another.
However, you will have to adjust settings.php and then all of the theme and other directory settings in the database to reflect your new folder structure.

Thanks, Kindred. I'll just start with a fresh download for the new forum.
