Maybe because it's not a bug, that's why you didn't find it.

Ok, maybe it isn't a bug, and maybe it has been explained "many times," but as a Newbie to SMF myself I'd like to know what it is, and after looking through five pages of search results I never did find an explanation.

I understand "old-timers" getting sick of repeating the same answers over again to each new group of users, but just brushing us aside with that's "been xplained many times" doesn't help or answer the question.  How about pointing us "Newbies" to the threads where it is explained?
