Facebook style SMF Chat?

I know Facebook Chat is unreliable, but its getting more stable and actually really compliments the site, its minimal, doesn't get in the way and its quite tidy too.

Just wondering if anyone is aware of such a mod yet for SMF, or whether someone's considered working on one?

I would be in to help pay for such a mod to be made.  Maybe if we can get some more people involved that are willing to pay for such a mod we would be able to keep the cost minimual to us but still have the coder make some money.  Just a thought.

Good point, although it would have to be far more stable than the Facebook implementation, hehe. They've changed theirs now though so that the Chat DIV itself doesn't reload per page change - I think the page changes are now within their own iframe or something of that nature?

I can't see it being that hard to implement something like this, utilising database writes/reads and a divs/iframes with their content refreshing constantly - I bet its not long before a developer picks this one up - would be a great feature, potentially quite a fair bit of extra load on the server though.

I guess the other consideration when looking at such a facility is that you in effect reduce chatter/discussion on the forum itself, instead of replying to posts, people may instead catch the member via the chat and blabber on there instead?
