Don't count "hidden"?

I wondered if it would be possible to create a mod that stop the hidden members being counted, as in the last part of the Users online section? (below in red)
0 Guests, 1 User (1 Hidden)
I want to find a way of really hiding a "hidden" online user as I have it disabled for everyone including mods, and having it counted if I as admin am hidden - means that is obviously me and completely defeats the object (mine is a small forum). Some of my moderators would also like to patrol the boards occasionally without people knowing they are online, and as much is hidden for guests, simply logging out will not be enough.
I want to still insist that regular members cannot hide their status as I don't want everyone to start doing it, so I also need a way for it to work along with this mod. As it is only a couple of people that need this it would also be sufficient to just alter the template's code to eliminate "hidden count" field in red above, if that would be easier than a mod - so if someone knows how I could do that it may solve the problem.

Is this not easy then? I would settle for how to remove the hidden count from being displayed sitewide.

Yep, I do still need help and I use 1.1.9 primarily, but I intend to move to version 2+ sooner or later so it would be good to know how to do it for both.
Just to recap: I am trying to eliminate the hidden count altogether, or for a way to set your own ID not to be counted when hidden, if you choose so. Any help would be welcomed and appreciated.
