Upgrading a broken SMF forum

<< < (3/3)

agcornell:
I did a clean install of a new forum on the server with an empty database. Worked beautifully.

I attempted to attach the old database and lo and behold - it reverted to the previous theme-less appearance.

The problem lies in the database tables so I will have to meticulously go through and compare and correct the tables.

Thanks for your help - see you on the otherside! :)

CapadY:
start your search in the next tables: ;)

I've been doing binary ftp transfer to avoid that, using a different FTP program. I'm wondering if maybe there was a pre-existing condition that got brought over?

FileZilla certainly does corrupt extension-less binary files. These would include your attachments and avatars. If you've been careful to transfer these in binary, hopefully FTP hasn't broken anything. There certainly could have been something "pre-existing".

Thank you CapadY, Arantor, Storman and MrPhil for your advice and offer of assistance.

I copied over the settings and themes tables in the db and attached a fixed copy of the database to the clean installation.

That seems to have fixed the appearance problems and the forum is working!

Thanks again for your help, it made all the difference. :D
