I would like subscribers to be able to receive within a certain timeframe a mail message with new postings (from e.g. selected topics).

An alternative might be that people can subscribe to RSS Newsfeeds. I remember reading once this might be included in Yabbse 1.6.

You can also do profiles, I forget how at the moment...

That feature REALLY needs to be documented... even I forget about it sometimes ::).
