Known issues on SMF 1.1.8 regarding message ids?

Looking at the results of the queries I asked (apart from the fact that the second was useless, but I realised when it was too late), it seems that you started "wasting" IDs from the start (the first topic is already 4'705'825), so there is something really wrong going on there, unfortunately I'm not so knowledgeable about SQL to formulate any meaningful hypothesis. Of course the easiest would be a modification that "eats" all the IDs, but it would mean something like 4000 IDs for each post posted...that seems unrealistic to me...
