SMF Support > Install and Upgrade Help
A critical error has occurred.
fakoykas:
Hello,
I'm trying to set up SMF for first time on Linux Debian (i've done it before many times on webhosts) and this is what i get after trying to access install.php
--- Code: ---A critical error has occurred.
This installer was unable to find the installer's language file or files. They should be found under:
/forum/Themes/default/languages
In some cases, FTP clients do not properly upload files with this many folders. Please double check to make sure you have uploaded all the files in the distribution.
If that doesn't help, please make sure this install.php file is in the same place as the Themes folder.
If you continue to get this error message, feel free to look to us for support.
--- End code ---
But i can't be missing files because i used wget and then "tar -zxvf" to extract the files.
Any Ideas? Thank you!

What did you use, to upload the files?
Did it happen to be Filezilla, by any chance?
If it was, try changing the "Transfer type" to "binary", not "auto", which is the default, and have another go at it.

I used wget command to instantly download it to the machine.

Ah. I have to confess that I've never even heard of wget.
So, I'm afraid you'll need to wait for someone with a braincell to help you, with this one. ;)

I tried to upload it from FileZilla too, but i uploaded it as tar.gz and then extracted everything, so i don't really think that files are actually missing. I think they are just not accessible. I even tried changing the permissions of install.php and whole languages folder but nothing changed.
