Were they both jpg files?

Have a look at the attachments settings. If, say, the pic was a bmp and bmp files aren't incuded in "Allowed attachment extensions", you might get that error, I guess.

Also, do you have "Perform extensive security checks on uploaded image attachments" checked? If so, try unchecking it.

K@, both files were jpg and I do have the perform extensive security checks un checked.  I'm pretty sure it was file size related.
