Moving SMF to other server-NEED HELP

Hi guys.
I'm new in this (SQL, php) , but I inherited forum from my dead cousin and I wanna keep his forum, because this was his hobby and satisfaction.

Right now the forum (megane-forume.eu) is running on his personal computer. It has installed 1.1.16 version of SMF. Now I would like to move it to commercial server. So I bought a space on fatcow.com server. I installed 2.0.2 SMF and import database and directories from original location, but I get an error : Unknown column 'add_deny' in 'field list'. And forum is unreachable, so I have to delete and install once again but what ever I tried always was an error ( somet times with different message)  : Unknown column 'a.attachment_type' in ' field list'

Can someone help me how to move this forum on other location?

Hi mbor, welcome to SMF.

The most important thing is, a database from the SMF 1.1.x branch is not compatible with the database from the SMF 2.0.x branch. There are different fieldnames and different fieldnames so it will never work to import a 1.x database in a 2.0 forum.

I'll give you some steps to work out

[ul]

* install a backup of the SMF1.1.6 forum on the new server
* import the 1.1.6 database
* Set the SMF default theme as default
* remove all installed MOD's they wont work any longer
* Find the large ugrade package for SMF2.0.2
* upload all files to the new host
* run upgrade.php, this will upgrade the forum AND the database
* after that you can install a new theme and the MOD's you want[/ul]

With those stepts it should be possible to upgrade your forum from 1.1.6 to 2.0.2
