Zlib installation? How and where?

(1/2) > >>

Srinib:
In the Server Settings, there is an option called Enable compressed output for lower bandwidth consumption. But it requires zlib to be installed.

By default it is already enabled. Does that mean, i don't need to worry about installing zlib?

If not and  if i need to install it, how and where should this Zlib be installed?

Note: I am not techie. I went to zlib's site and it was all greek and latin to me.

青山 素子:
If the module is installed in PHP, the output will be compressed, if it is not installed, the output will not be compressed. That option allows you to basically fully disable compressed output regardless of the state of the PHP module by unchecking the option.

Srinib:
Sorry for asking you a dumb question.
Module?
What exactly does a module mean in the present context?

青山 素子:
PHP Module. You can see what modules your PHP install has by viewing a phpinfo page (What is phpinfo.php?) unless your host has disabled the phpinfo function.

The Burglar!:
your host need to install zlib on the actually machine and compile it into php as module if not done already ;)
