Do you simply just want to remove the functionality entirely? (Not even show the buttons anymore)

Would be great if that was possible as I'm currently on a free webhost and keep getting suspended due to 14+ emails being sent.

Are you on the default theme?

This may sound crude, but it would make sense to move from your free host for so many different reasons. If you think your SMF is crippled now, wait until your forum really takes off.

Think of the long term and pick one of the many decent SMF hosts that are around.
