SMF Support > Install and Upgrade Help

Another Install/Upgrade question

Sorry if this has been covered, but I didn't see the exact thing I'm wanting to do.

I've got an existing SE 1.5.5 running in a folder named wbbs, a database named wbbs, and table prefixes of wbbs_. Everything there is working great! I'd like to do an install or upgrade to a new folder named smf. With a new smf database, and smf_ tables, without affecting the existing wbbs data. But I would like to convert the existing data to the new setup. Is this possible, and what would be the best course to take? My desire is to convert the wbbs data over to smf probably several times before I'm ready to actually cut everyone over by pointing my domain to the new folder.

I've created a duplicate of the wbbs folder and renamed it smf. I then copied all the 41 upgrade content to that folder and adjusted all the references in Settings.php. I even changed the prefix from wbbs_ to smf_. Permissions are all set and I'm ready to run Upgrade.php, but fear it'll trash my existing data.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

As long as you have made a copy of the database, and renamed all the tables with the new prefix, it should work.

I very much recommend you make a full backup of the database as a precaution before continuing.

Yes I backup the entire drive daily, plus did a data & struc dump just in case. I did this on my laptop already to get a feel for SMF, and to make my own theme, but it just overwrote the wbbs database with the old data when I ran the upgrade script. I think for my own sanity, and safety's sake, I'll test this operation on the laptop first. Just thought I was missing something elementry.

Thanks unknown!
