Seriously though, for his own safety and the safety of his device: just let him create that google account and download Skype from a trusted source where it is safe...
You don't have to fill out any personal information to register... Really, it's not as evil as you think, plus they can't really collect anything more than the device could already do in theory, but doesn't...
